Thursday, September 24 Devil's Tower to Sheridan

Yeah! Looked out the window this morning and saw nothing blue sky and bright sun! Heading due north on our way to Devil's Tower we took a few minutes to explore the town of Spearfish. This looks like a very nice place! Then up the road a bit to Belle Fourche where we found a visitor center with a wonderful museum of local history. This town also has the official designation as the Geographic Center of the U.S. Must be true, there's a plaque from NOAA! (Think about it. Can't be true. Maybe includes Alaska and Hawaii?)

As we approached Devil's Tower we could see it off in the distance. Almost an apparition. We had been here twice before but I don't remember it as quite so dramatic and awesome! Of course, a cloudless sky helps! We did the 1.6 mile hike around the base. Its all paved but lots of ups and down make it challenging (for certain unfit people). Great views in all directions. If you look close, you can see climbers scaling the walls.

Our days ends in Sheridan, WY, after miles and miles of nothing on I-90. The only interesting thing was an open pit coal mine in Gillette, but when you're flying past at 80mph you can't see much.

Staying at the Comfort Suites, great dinner at Wyoming Chop and Ribs.

Tomorrow on to Cody.
